Victor "Vic" Joseph Sauvageot, 78 of Calabash, North Carolina, passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer. He was born on May 29, 1948, in Wheeling, West Virginia.
Vic is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Heidi Sauvageot; his stepdaughter, Jean Davidson (Kojiro Umezaki); his nephew, Philip (Stephanie) Sauvageot; and his niece, Tina Sauvageot (Mike McFeely).
He was the son of Oscar Sauvageot and Hilda Sauvageot. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Diane Sauvageot; his stepdaughter, Laura (Davidson) Sauvageot; and his brother, Philip Sauvageot.
Vic was an alum of West Liberty University and earned his master's degree in special education from West Virginia University. He found his true calling helping young people and dedicated many years to supporting his students with patience, compassion, and encouragement in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Those who knew Vic will remember his quiet strength, resilience, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He faced life's challenges with determination and met his illness with remarkable courage and grace. An avid golfer, Vic recently celebrated the thrill of making a hole-in-one. When he wasn't on the golf course, he enjoyed watching football and cheering for Notre Dame and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a gifted musician who played both the oboe and the piano.
Vic will be deeply missed by his family and by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, perseverance, and gentle presence will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
In accordance with Vic's wishes, no funeral service will be held.
Memorial contributions may be made to any animal shelter in honor of Vic's beloved first dog, Bear, or Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington, NC.
