Emily Ruth Wilson, 98, of Wheeling, passed away peacefully on Friday Sept. 4, 2026 at Liza's Place in Wheeling. Born June 13, 1928 in Wheeling, Emily was the daughter of the late Edward and Jessie Simms Straub.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, and friend. Her family was the most important part of her life, and her love, memories, and traditions will carry on.
She is survived by a brother Thomas (Jean) Straub. She left behind her two sons: Bruce Edward (Sandee) and Dr. Timothy James (Pamela). She was predeceased by her eldest son Clifford Mark and her husband Clifford. She is also survived by daughter- in-law Joanne Rogos. Grandchildren: Chris (Erica) Wilson, Amy (Pat) Craver, Dr. Michael (Kylie) Wilson, Drew Wilson, Evan Wilson, Kristin (Anthony) Steer, Dr. Kyle (Mera) Kutrovac, Klete (Ashley) Kutrovac, and Corby (Maria Fernanda) Wilson, and twenty great-grand- children that are too expensive to mention here.
She reveled in the chaos when surrounded by her great grand-children, and they were the love of her life. She enjoyed 73 years of marriage with Clifford with whom she traveled a lot of the world and all fifty states, but her favorite place on earth was with her family. She was an avid WVU football fan, and a former nursery school teacher's aid at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. She was a 48 year member of PEO International, and the manager of the Gabriel Project at St. James. She enjoyed both water and snow skiing until she was embarrassed that people would think she was too old. She went down a waterslide to celebrate her 90th birthday and took her last swim last year at 97. She loved Daily's frozen pina colada drinks – but never more than one! and Red Delicious boxed wine.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 18, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 2 Richmond Ave, Mozart, WV with Rev Deborah Gable officiating, followed by a luncheon.
Special thanks to nieces Debbie Takach and Beth Wilson, who were always there for her, and the staff at Elmhurst who she truly loved and made her stay there special. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at Liza's Place for their compassionate care and support in her final days.
