John Frank Zervos, 99, of Glen Dale, WV, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at his home.
John was born on July 11, 1927, and raised in Moundsville, West Virginia, to Greek immigrants Irene and Frank Zervos. His Greek heritage, faith, and family were the foundation of his life.
In 1958, John married the love of his life, Sofia Logothetis, in Karpathos, Greece. They shared 68 years of marriage filled with love and devotion.
John and Sofia settled in Glen Dale, West Virginia, where they raised their four children. Exceptionally hardworking, John devoted his life to providing for his family. He proudly served in the United States Navy and later worked at Conalco Aluminum.
John was a devoted member of St. John the Devine Greek Orthodox Church in Wheeling, where he and Sophia raised their children in faith.
He loved being at home with his family and was rarely still. He could often be found working in the yard, climbing ladders, cutting down trees even in his 90's or tending the garden he lovingly grew each summer with Sofia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Frank John Zervos, whose loss was one of the most difficult times of his life; his brothers, George, Bill, and Nick; and his sisters, Tena and Julie.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Sofia (née Logothetis) Zervos; his children, Venetia (Costa) Chryssofos, Irene (Todd) Katres, and Nick (Amy, née Riggleman) Zervos; his grandchildren, Maria, John, Sophia, Gina, Paige, Sophia, Zoe, Logothetis, Saige, Theo, and Ariah; and his great-grandsons, Theo and Frankie. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Mary Zervos (née Assad), wife of his late son, Frank John Zervos; his sister, Helen Leon; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Family will receive friends on Friday, September 11, from 5:30-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., with a Trisagon Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 12, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Devine Greek Orthodox Church, 2215 Chapline Street, Wheeling, WV.
Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.
John's legacy lives on through his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
