Linda Truban Gardill, 78, of Glen Dale, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2026, returning home to our Lord.
Linda was born on October 24, 1947, in Monongalia County, WV, to the late Floyd and Olga Truban.
A lifelong Mountaineer, she attended West Virginia University where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Upon graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and a Master's Degree in English Literature, she began the teaching career that would define so much of her life. She moved to Glen Dale and taught English at John Marshall High School for more than 30 years, sharing her love of literature and language with countless students before her retirement in 2005.
Linda was a faithful and active member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Glen Dale, where her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She gave generously of her time to the parish, including many years volunteering with the Lenten Fish Fry where she enjoyed the opportunity to work with friends and neighbors in serving others.
An avid reader, Linda was rarely without a book in hand. Above all, she treasured her family and took great delight in her grandchildren, whom she spoiled at every opportunity.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, James Gardill; their children, James Christopher (Jodie) of Wheeling, WV, Catherine (Jason) of Pearisburg, VA, and Rebecca (Andrew) of Pearisburg, VA; and her cherished grandchildren, Kaleb, William, Brenna, James, Darcie, Olivia, John Thomas, and Isabella. She is also survived by her siblings, David Truban (Kristi), Ellen Ponceroff (Tom), and Lisa Everly (David), all of Morgantown, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Olga Truban.
The family extends a very special and heartfelt thank you to Kathleen Naegele and Sarah Edgell for the loving care, compassion, and kindness they gave Linda and to Corey Young for his many home visits to maintain her mobility. The family is also deeply grateful to the staff at WVU Medicine Continuous Care Center for the exceptional care, comfort, and dignity they provided to Linda, and for the support they offered to the family.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, September 10, 2026 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a Vigil at 7:30 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby – Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, WV. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 11, 2026 at 10 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church, Glen Dale, WV with Rev. John D. Soplinski. Interment will immediately follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.
