JOHN LOZIER

John William Lozier, known affectionately to all as Jack, passed away on October 26, 2026, at his home in Bethany, West Virginia, having reached the full measure of a long and well-lived life. He was 88 years old.

Jack was born on December 20, 1937, in Fostoria, Ohio to Wallace Lozier and Mabel (Schroer) Lozier. A devoted scholar from his earliest years, he earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder before continuing his studies at The Ohio State University, where he received both a master’s degree and a doctorate. His commitment to learning never waned, and he carried the joy of teaching with him throughout his life, sharing his knowledge generously with students and colleagues alike.

Jack was a longtime professor at Bethany College and for many years, Jack served faithfully as a chapter advisor to Delta Tau Delta. Roles that reflected his natural gift for mentorship and his genuine care for young people. Those who knew him remember a warm and welcoming man, forever excited to meet someone new and eager to learn about their background and customs. His love of different cultures was one of the defining features of his character, drawing him to travel widely and to embrace the world with curiosity and openness.

Jack found deep enjoyment in the finer pleasures of life. He delighted in classical music, especially the works of string quartets. In all his pursuits, his enthusiasm and kindness were unmistakable. He is survived by his beloved wife, Coral (Evans) Lozier; his sons, Robert Lozier and Charles Lozier; his adopted daughter, Ping (Chen) Howard; his daughter-in-law, Chantel Lozier; and his cherished grandchildren, John (Hennie) Lozier, Kimberly Howard, and Jade Howard. He leaves behind a family who will carry forward his legacy of warmth, curiosity, and love.

Visitation will be held Monday November 2, 2026, from 11am until 1pm at Reasner Funeral Home 1515 Charles Street, Wellsburg, West Virginia. Friends and loved ones are warmly invited to attend and to share in remembering a life marked by learning, generosity, and an abiding affection for people of every walk of life at 1pm. Jack will be profoundly missed, and his memory will remain a source of comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know him. Online condolences may be made at ReasnerOfWellsburg.com
