Lucas Re-elected, Trouten Elected Clerk

The Belmont County sheriff’s race was won by incumbent David Lucas by a large margin over challenger Dick Flanagan.

Lucas, a Republican, received 21,452 votes and Democrat Flanagan received 9,029 votes, according to unofficial results.

“I ran this race no differently than I have done the last four years. I went to work every day. I was there every day, working with my command staff and my deputies, doing our job. That is what I looked at, that is what the people saw. They saw us doing our job. Our record stands for itself. I can’t be more proud of my command staff, my deputies, my corrections officers and all the staff at the sheriff’s office. They’re the ones that make me look good,” said Lucas.

Flanagan, a Bellaire police lieutenant, campaigned on his experience in law enforcement. He touted his 25 years of experience in local law enforcement, 23 of those years working narcotics and undercover.

Flanagan could not be reached Tuesday night for comment.

Meanwhile,     Ryan “Rick” Olexo and David Trouten vied for the Belmont County clerk of courts position, with Trouten coming out on top.

Unofficial results show that Trouten garnered 17,642 votes while Olexo received 12,019 votes.

Neither Trouten nor Olexo could be reached for comment late Tuesday evening.
