Tiffany Hoffman will succeed her mother, Kathie Hoffman, as the next Ohio County assessor.

The younger Hoffman, a Democrat, defeated her Independent opponent, Katrina Taylor, by a vote total of 10,013 to 6,803.

Tiffany Hoffman was appointed to the ballot by the Ohio County Democratic Executive Committee on July 26 to fill the spot left vacant following the death of her mother on July 13. Kathie Hoffman had won the Democratic nomination for re-election in the May 10 primary election.

Hoffman held back emotion after learning she had won Tuesday night.

“There are no words,” she said. “It means so much that people came out and voted for me to hold up my mom’s office. I thank all the unions who supported me. Ohio County is behind me and my family.”

Hoffman has been employed at WesBanco for the past 15 years, and has served as an executive assistant there for 11 years. She also holds a real estate license, and is a real estate agent with First Choice Realtors.

She defeated Taylor, who  has worked in the assessor’s office since 2007 and is manager of the real estate department in the office.
