Wheeling Central Baseball Downs Dons

WHEELING — The Maroon Knights (1-0) received three hits and a RBI from Mike Toepfer and a pair of hits and three RBI from Kyle Newmeyer as they doubled up Madonna (0-2), 6-3 on Tuesday night at the I-470 Complex.

Cameron 2, Paden City 1

PADEN CITY — Travis Mickey earned the save in the seventh, getting out of a bases-loaded jam with two outs to secure the narrow victory for Cameron (2-0) over Paden City (1-2).

Jessop Broughton notched the win with an 11-strikeout performance. He also added a RBI single.

Matt Saxon punched out 12 for the Wildcats.

LOST CREEK — South Harrison (1-0) held the Hornets (0-1) to just one hit in a season-opening victory.

Oak Glen 1, 9 Innings

WHEELING — It took a nine-inning affair but the Patriots (1-3) got in the win column.

Ashley Linder delivered the walk-off RBI double to plate Kieran Johnson with two outs in the ninth.

Johnson led the offense with three hits and Linder earned the win.

Kacy Long started the game for Park and fanned eight in over eight innings of work.

WHEELING — Megan Staley and Juliana Kepple each won their singles matches and they teamed up in doubles to win and help lift John Marshall to victory over Wheeling Central in the girls’ competition.

WHEELING — David Agcaoili and Carmen Alexander were victorious in each of their singles matches and were unstoppable as a duo in doubles, lifting Central over the Monarchs in the boys’s event.
