Lumberjacks Return Much With Big Goals In Mind
PINE GROVE – With 10 starters back on both sides of the football, Valley is looking for big things this season.
“We’ve had back-to-back winning seasons and are looking to make a push in the playoffs this season,” Valley head coach Logan Miller said.
Included in that group are a trio of players seeking their fourth varsity letters, while another three will be three-year vets.
Leading the seniors is quarterback Gavin Derby (5-9, 165). The explosive Lumberjack has put up some eye-popping numbers in his career. He has run for 3,342 yards and passed for another 3,200, accounting for 75 touchdowns.
Last year, Derby totalled 35 offensive touchdowns with 22 coming on the ground where he ran for 1,628. He passed for 13 and 1,341 yards.
Defensively, he charted 105 tackles and picked off four passes in 2023.
Other senior returners are wide receiver Joey Barr (5-8, 160), who caught 20 passes for 350 yards a year ago, and two-way lineman Cameron Derico (5-10, 230).
The junior returnees include wide receiver Landen Jerico (6-3, 190), who snagged 25 catches for 420 stripes last season, and two-way linemen Aidan Daniels (5-11, 230) and Owen Morgan (5-6, 135).
Other seniors include running back Ethan Williams (5-9, 170) and Andrew Shaw and offensive linemen Kreed Scyoc (5-9, 210) and Adden Kuhn.
Juniors are offensive linemen Ethan VanCamp and Coledon Cain.
Sophomores include wide receivers Koleton Kinkade and Ryder Grayvette; and offensive linemen Jacob Myers, Braydon White, Eric Burton, Evan Utt and Gavin Cain.
A pair of freshmen wide receivers round out the roster. They are Wyatt Rogers and Ayden Shaw.
Only one new team on the schedule. Hancock, Md., replaces South Harrison.
