Sharon Dechiazza Provides Beauty And Support At Frederick’s

By JOSELYN KING

WHEELING — Sharon DeChiazza, owner of Frederick’s Day Spa Salon, indicates women looking out for each other is a beautiful thing.

“I think the most valuable lesson I have learned at Frederick’s is how important supporting one another is,” she said. “We have built a salon that thrives on all of our team members pulling the rope the same direction.

“Not only for our customers, but our team members all uplift and support one another – which fosters more growth and happiness among our team.”

DeChiazza said her current role at Frederick’s is “to lead the management team and continue to lead our hair salon department.”

“I mostly focus on helping our stylists grow into the stylists they want to be, while also dabbling in our marketing and management efforts,” she explained. “I have volunteered in the past with the Wheeling Symphony, and as a salon we frequently do community give back drives such as our toy drive and a school supplies drive.

She has been married to my husband Fred for almost 40 years, and it was due to him and his family that she chose her career.

“At the young of age of 17, I went to Pittsburgh Beauty Academy,” DeChiazza explained. “My husband’s (boyfriend at the time) family owned Chic’s Beauty Shop. I was around the beauty industry, so I decided I’d give it a try. It came easily to me and I was able to excel at it.”

The couple has two daughters – Lydia and McKenna. Lydia is married to Tanner Yoho, the salon manager at Frederick’s.

“Both of our daughters are involved in Frederick’s,” DeChiazza said.

“Lydia is the department head of our Nail Studio, and McKenna is a cosmetologist and is presently getting her massage therapy licensing.”

She added the beauty industry is a wonderful field “full of opportunities to grow and branch out.”

“I would advise any young girl interested in beauty or wellness to take some time to think about what beauty and wellness path you’d like to take,” DeChiazza said. “Are you interested in hair or skin care? Once you have that narrowed down the world is your oyster.”

She said women today in the beauty industry have opportunities that did not exist when she was a young stylist beginning her career.

“Just in the last few years we have seen more stylists step into the realm of owning their own business.

Those opportunities were not as attainable when I graduated,” she added.

DeChiazza said she has always loved the “small town” feel that exists in the Valley.

“In a bigger area it is often challenging to find your niche and support system because of the sheer volume of people,” she explained. “In our valley there is a corner for everyone – whether you are a social butterfly or someone who wants to sit on the porch and enjoy a nice sunset. We have it all here in the Ohio Valley.”

DeChiazza does have a motto that guides her at Frederick’s.

“The level you set the bar to ‘wow’ your clients will determine how fast and how high you will grow,” she said.
