Losses Leading To Frustration

MORGANTOWN — As the losses continue to mount for the Mountaineers, the frustration of another disappointing setback was evident on every player that came into the interview room following WVU’s latest defeat, 65-51, to Big 12 leader Kansas State. But with the frustrations come hope that a freshman class which put three of its players in WVU’s starting lineup for the first time this season — Derek Culver, Emmitt Matthews Jr., and Brandon Knapper — would begin the slow process of bringing the Mountaineers back in 2018-19. Brown Officially Announces Football Staff

MORGANTOWN — The first crack of pads and grunts of hard hits are still a month away, but that did not stop first-year West Virginia University football coach Neal Brown from stepping in front of a podium Monday to introduce the staff that the Mountaineers’ 35th head coach will help him through the transition to a new era of West Virginia football. “Putting together this staff the thing I was looking for first and foremost was men of character,” Brown said. “Men whose believes are in line with our culture and align with our beliefs about the ‘total Mountaineer.’” The ...

No. 14 Kansas Routs WVU

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Devon Dotson drove through a crowd of West Virginia players, stopped in his tracks and passed the ball across the key, finding K.J. Lawson alone in the corner. Without hesitation, Lawson sunk his third 3-pointer of the game before running down the court celebrating with ...

Depleted WVU Visits Kansas

MORGANTOWN — “We will fix it.” With these four words West Virginia (10-14 overall, 2-9 Big 12) basketball coach Bob Huggins opened Tuesday’s Big 12 Teleconference. “Maybe not this year, but we will fix it,” the Hall of Fame-caliber coach said. Less than two days after suffering one of its worse losses of the season — a 75-53 thumping at the hands of the University of Texas — Director of Athletics Shane Lyons delivered a devastating blow to any hopes that the Mountaineers might turn around a dismal campaign and somehow put themselves back into the running for a ...

Mountaineers Back on Diamond

MORGANTOWN — The boys of summer — West Virginia University style — open the 2019 season on the road today against Kennesaw State with a solid pitching staff and a huge chip on their shoulders following a 2018 campaign that was less than anyone expected. Especially veteran coach Randy Mazey. “That’s not too good,” the Mountaineers skipper said when asked about his team’s No. 6 pick in the Big 12 preseason poll. “That’s not very good for everyone else but it’s good for us. We know we’re better than that. We have a chip on our shoulder now and something to prove. ...

Ahmad, Harris Out at WVU

MORGANTOWN — An e-mail announcement that came from West Virginia’s Sports Information Office was just one sentence, but it contained a significant message — “West Virginia University men’s basketball senior Esa Ahmad and junior Wesley Harris have been dismissed from the team for a ...
