MORGANTOWN — It only took West Virginia men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins a few minutes to go from elation to deflation following the Mountaineers’ 79-71 victory over Oklahoma Saturday afternoon at the Coliseum. “I think we’re playing harder again,” Huggins explained. “I think ...
MORGANTOWN — On a day where a groundhog predicted an early spring, West Virginia basketball fans got the opposite, a little sun shine. While Punxsutawney Phil didn’t see his shadow on a cloudy day in Pennsylvania, Brandon Knapper came off the bench to score a career-high 25 points to ...
MORGANTOWN — Winning can be contagious. So can free throw shooting. At least that was the case Saturday afternoon at the Coliseum as West Virginia (10-12, 2-7 Big 12) held off Oklahoma (15-7, 3-6) for its first win since knocking off then-No. 5 Kanas. “We just got locked in,” junior Wesley Harris explained following the game. “We work on them every day. We shoot 100 of them every day. But, it’s always good to see that first one go in. “Once you see your teammate hit one, it lets you know they can go in and you are more relaxed when it’s you going to the ...
MORGANTOWN — Two teams with a common thread — lack of consistency — take to the court at the Coliseum for a noon tipoff today. “We’ve been inconsistent with results, certainly in Big 12 play,” Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger explained during Thursday’s Big 12 Teleconference. “Not much from our direction, not much positive. We were way too tentative to match their physicality.” Words that could have just as easily come from the mouth of West Virginia coach Bob ...
AMES, Iowa — Iowa State’s Lindell Wigginton leapt into the lane to steal a pass, sprinted down the court and got fouled. He then casually flipped the ball underhanded toward the basket from 30 feet — and found the bottom of the net. It was that kind of night for Wigginton, who has ...
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Tynice Martin scored a season-high 27 points — 16 in the opening quarter — to lead West Virginia to a 64-58 win over No. 12 Texas on Monday night. The Frank Erwin Center was the lone Big 12 arena in which the Mountaineers (15-5, 6-3) had never beaten the home team prior to Monday. The Longhorns took a brief 9-4 lead before Martin’s jumper triggered a 19-4 run that forced Texas to chase the Mountaineers the rest of the night. West Virginia led 23-13 after the first quarter making 10 of 16 shots from the field including 3 of 4 from 3-point range. Jatarie ...
