Bench Big In Victory By ’Eers

MORGANTOWN — Playing its 26th game of the season one would think that a head coach would be comfortable with his starting lineup and rotation. That was not the case Monday night at the Coliseum as veteran head coach Bob Huggins reinserted senior Daxter Miles Jr. into the starting lineup in place of sophomore James ‘Beetle’ Bolden as the No. 20 Mountaineers (18-7 overall, 7-5 Big 12) looked to avoid a season sweep by the visiting Horned Frogs from Texas Christian (17-8, 5-7 Big 12). However, before five minutes had passed, all but senior Jevon Carter had been replaced as the ...

Getting To Line Key For WVU

MORGANTOWN — Players for No. 19 West Virginia (18-7, 7-5 Big 12) won’t talk about it. Veteran head coach Bob Huggins can’t talk about it. But, the numbers don’t lie. West Virginia heads into its 26th game of the regular season at 9 p.m. tonight when Texas Christian (17-8, 5-7 Big 12) invades the Coliseum as part of ESPN’s ‘Big Monday,’ knowing that their chances of winning go hand-in-hand with the number of free throws they, or their opponent, make. In its first 25 games WVU has made more free throws than its opposition 10 times. Their record in those contests? 10 wins, ...

Cowboys Surprise W.Virginia

MORGANTOWN — Road games against ranked teams don’t seem to be much of a problem for coach Mike Boynton Jr and his Cowboys. Kendall Smith and Cameron McGriff each scored 20 points and Oklahoma State beat another ranked team on the road, topping No. 19 West Virginia 88-85 ...

Early Foul Trouble Thwarts Ahmad

MORGANTOWN — Junior Esa Ahmad’s fourth start of the season didn’t last very long for the Cleveland native as a pair of personal fouls in the first three minutes of No. 19 WVU’s home contest against Oklahoma State, sent the smooth-shooting forward to the bench for the final 17 minutes of the first half. “I knew I was going to sit out the rest of the first half,” Ahmad said following WVU’s 88-85 loss to the Cowboys. “I just wanted to come out and play as hard as I could in the second half.” Ahmad, who missed the teams’ first meeting while serving a NCAA-mandated ...

No. 19 WVU Plays Host to Oklahoma State Today

MORGANTOWN — Ask Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton about No. 19 West Virginia’s recent up and down season and the former Mountaineers assistant will give you a simple answer. “I see a really good team that is capable of making a really deep run in March,” Boynton said during Thursday’s Big 12 Teleconference. “Every single team in America goes through stretches where they don’t play well and people overreact. “That’s what happened to them and now they are playing well.” WVU (18-6 overall, 7-4 Big 12) will look to make it three wins in a row when it plays ...

WVU Adds Two Lineman

MORGANTOWN — The official National Letter of Intent Signing Day came and went on Wednesday with little, if any, fanfare. After inking 20 new players to the Mountaineers program in December, Coach Dana Holgorsen and his staff went into the traditional signing day with only six scholarships remaining for the Class of 2018. Two of those were grabbed up by offensive linemen Michael and Joe Brown. The Compton, Calif. natives come to Morgantown from Eastern Arizona Community College. Michael Brown (6-foot-3, 340 pounds) earned 2017 All-WSFL First Team Offense (Western States Football ...
