Fordham Final Test For WVU

MORGANTOWN — For most coaches, a 10-game winning streak just before the Christmas holiday would be a reason for glee. West Virginia men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins isn’t one of those coaches, however. “No,” Huggins said when asked about his team’s success. “We’ve won 10 in a row? I thought we were horrible. I know that looks bad in the paper. “But, we didn’t practice well. We didn’t prepare well. They didn’t have the same bounce or the same enthusiasm. I wasn’t a bit shocked that we shot that bad. We hadn’t shot well in practice for two days.” WVU ...

Wheeling Central Grad Harler Earns His First Career Start at WVU

MORGANTOWN – Moundsville native Chase Harler always believed that he could not only play at No. 10 West Virginia University (10-1), but would one day hear his name announced as one of Bob Huggins starters. That belief became a reality Wednesday night in the Coliseum when the 6-foot-3 former Wheeling Central Catholic standout received the starting nod to replace an injured Lamont West as the Mountaineers played host to winless Coppin State. “I had been running with the ones (Tuesday) so I kind of had a feeling,” Harler said. “But, the coaches didn’t tell me until just before ...

Holgorsen Happy About Class

MORGANTOWN – National Letter of Intent Signing Day actually came two weeks early for Coach Dana Holgorsen and his West Virginia University Mountaineers when seniors-to-be Will Grier and David Sills V announced their intentions to return to campus for their final years of eligibility. “Step 1 was to get them to come back,” Holgorsen said during Wednesday’s Heart of Dallas Bowl press conference. “Getting those juniors back was huge.” Grier, who will miss the Mountaineers bowl contest against Pac-12-member Utah, led the team with 3,490 yards passing and 34 touchdowns — ...

Allen Nets 24 To Lead WVU

MORGANTOWN — Bob Huggins has never been one to mince words so it wasn’t a surprise when he described No. 10 West Virginia’s 77-38 victory over winless Coppin State as “horrific.” Teddy Allen scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Mountaineers (10-1), who ...

WVU Back in Action Tonight Vs. Coppin State

MORGANTOWN — Finals week has come and gone and now it’s time for fans to return to the Coliseum to cheer on the No. 10 ranked West Virginia men’s basketball team (9-1) as it takes on a winless Coppin State (0-11) team at 7 tonight. “We had a big gap in the schedule,” WVU coach Bob Huggins said. “And, it gets monotonous playing against the same guy every day. We just needed to play. We felt it was needed at this time.” The Eagles of head coach Juan Dixon are coming off an 81-74 loss at UMBC on Dec. 12. This will be the third meeting between the two schools. WVU took ...

WR Sills Will Return to WVU

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia All-American receiver David Sills V has announced that he will return for his senior season in 2018. “After talking with my family and my coaches and taking time in prayer, I have decided to return for my senior season at West Virginia University,” Sills said. “I look forward to our bowl game, and having another year with my teammates here in Morgantown. It is important to me to finish what I started in the classroom and help our program win a Big 12 championship. WVU holds a special place in my heart, and I am looking forward to seeing what this team ...
