Get Out, Vote In East Ohio
Today’s election will include critical decisions to be made by many East Ohio voters. Several communities will be voting for mayors and council members. A substantial number of township trustee races are on the ballot, as are decisions on board of education members.
In addition, a number of tax levies will be on the ballot. Some involve municipalities, others townships. A few school and library levy issues will be decided.
Perhaps the most important decision will be made in Smithfield, where voters will decide whether to surrender corporate powers. If that choice is made, the practical effect would be to dissolve village government.
In St. Clairsville, an election for mayor and three city council members will be held. It occurs after months of acrimony over whether to sell the municipal water system to a private company.
Important decisions must be made throughout East Ohio. If you are a registered voter, the election is your opportunity to affect those decisions.
Polling places will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. — plenty of time for most people to cast their ballots. If you are a registered voter and you have not used the early voting system, please go to the polls today.
