A new judge has been appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court to oversee a Jefferson County Common Pleas Court case involving the Crossridge landfill. He is Judge Timothy Hogan, of Hamilton County.
Local Judge Michelle Miller had handled the case, but recused herself "to avoid the appearance of impropriety."
Actually, landfill owner Joseph Scugoza faces three court cases filed by the state attorney general. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has accused Scugoza of not complying with Miller's orders on closure of the landfill and handling leachate from it.
Violations of state rules at the landfill reportedly date back more than two decades. It is time to get the matter resolved, once and for all.
Let us hope, then, that Judge Hogan puts the matter on the fast track.
