Much of the attention during this 2020 election season has been focused on early primaries and party caucuses in a few states -- and how they affect the Democratic Party's choice of a nominee for president.
But as we have pointed out many times, that should not be the most immediate concern of East Ohio voters. Presidents do not run school systems. They do not handle local-level justice. They do not pave streets and roads.
Decisions East Ohio voters will make -- some of them final during the primary election -- will have a bearing on all the above-listed matters and more.
On the primary election ballot in our area this year are issues regarding tax levies to support schools, public bus service and emergency ambulances, among others.
Also on the ballot are candidates for any number of local offices, ranging from judges to board of education members.
The primary election is March 17 -- but early voting for it began last week.
We encourage Ohioans to make use of the early voting system. It ensures that, should some unforeseen circumstance keep you from getting to the polls on March 17, your voice will be heard -- and it matters.
