Every Little Bit Helps on Roads

1 min read

Monroe County officials are being encouraged to participate in the state's Transportation Improvements District initiative. Forty-six of Ohio's 88 counties already have.

Ohio Department of Transportation official Joe Uecker met with county commissioners and others last week to explain the TID program. Its chief goal seems to be encouraging local-state cooperation and sometimes, involvement by the private sector in solving transportation concerns.

Monroe County has plenty of them, with a shortage of local funds to make highway repairs and improvements.

The TID program is not a deep well of funding. It has awarded just $4.5 million to various projects this year.

Still, every little bit helps -- and becoming part of the program could help Monroe County find funding for some transportation projects. County commissioners should give TID participation serious consideration to joining the state consortium.
