Wheeling's park system is one of our region's true treasures. It is the envy of many cities much larger than ours.
And the Memorial Ice Rink at Wheeling Park is among the best features of the system.
Last week, the Wheeling Park Commission revealed a plan to spend $1.3 million renovating and improving the facility, which is 58 years old. The idea is to make it an even nicer, more versatile ice complex and multipurpose community facility.
Thousands of area residents use the rink for everything from hockey and figure skating to simple recreation. It is the only public ice rink in our community.
Good for the park commission, then, for embarking on a campaign to make the facility even better. We hope the community will support the effort, and we and many others look forward to the result.
