Local Cases No Surprise

We knew it was coming. When the news that two Ohio County residents have tested positive for COVID-19 came out, it was less a shock than a reminder of the necessity for us all to do what we can to curb the spread of the disease.

Before Wednesday, when the two Ohio County cases were revealed, COVID-19 already was all around us: two cases in Marshall County, two in Belmont County and nine in Washington County, Pennsylvania. It was only a matter of time.

Making predictions is something experienced journalists avoid. We report the news, not what we think may happen. In this situation, however, the facts tell us there are far more Northern Panhandle and East Ohio cases of the coronavirus than have been confirmed yet.

What is important to understand is that, in all likelihood, most of those infected have carried the virus for days, even weeks. Avoiding new transmissions is critical.

You know what to do.

Just do it.
