Working the Polls for June 9 Election

1 min read

Let us hope that by June 9, COVID-19 has been whipped in West Virginia. Even if that happens, the primary election rescheduled for that date will be affected by after-shocks from the coronavirus.

One of them may be a shortage of people to work at the state's 1,723 polling places.

If you vote in person regularly, you probably have noticed that a substantial percentage of poll workers are older people.

Older people, especially those with underlying medical conditions, are most at risk from the virus. No doubt, some veteran poll workers will decide to skip this election.

Secretary of State Mac Warner has launched Operation Elective Service to recruit younger people to staff the polling places this year. For more information, visit the website wvsos.gov.

If you are less than 60 years old, we urge you to consider being a poll worker. Let's give the Election Day veterans a break.
