Brooke County's once-high rate of positive tests for COVID-19 is declining steadily, to the point it is smack in the middle of the state's color coded risk map, with a gold rating.
Let us hope the situation continues to improve.
Two members of the volunteer group Downtown Wellsburg, Angela Staffileno and Alex Weld, are leading an effort to hold a Winter Wonderland Hometown Holiday Market on Dec. 11-12 in the town's business district. If all goes as planned, it should be an enjoyable event and good for merchants.
However, if the county's COVID-19 rating grows worse, getting into either the orange or red stages, the event will be called off.
Good. Canceling it if the disease threat is too high would be the right thing to do. Let us hope that does not happen -- because Ohio Valley residents certainly could use a little Christmas cheer.
