Keep It Up, W.Va.!

For the first time in months, West Virginia on Sunday had all of its counties out of the red on the state Department of Health and Human Resources’ county COVID-19 map. That’s a great step in the right direction as we work to beat the coronavirus.

That trend continued Monday, as more than 20 percent of the state’s counties are now green.

Locally, Ohio and Marshall counties, which had been steady red on the map since October, now are in the gold category as numbers are falling.

There’s still a long way to go in the fight against COVID-19, and we must do our part to remain safe over the coming months, but West Virginia has been making the right calls with the vaccine, and it appears to be paying off.

As of Monday, 250,646 West Virginians had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Of those quarter-million residents, more than 140,000 of them had received both doses — with a growing number of those vaccinated coming from the most vulnerable age populations of 65 and older.

Now is not the time to get complacent, though. There remains much work to do. But for today, good work, West Virginia!
