‘Sounding the Alarm’

It’s nearly time to spring forward, when we’re always encouraged to replace the batteries on our smoke alarms. But if you simply need a new smoke alarm, the American Red Cross and the Wheeling Fire Department are working to help keep local folks safe by installing up to 200 free smoke detectors in city residents’ homes through the Red Cross “Sound the Alarm” campaign. The event didn’t take place last year due to COVID-19, so if you’re in need of a new smoke alarm and you live in Wheeling, call 304-232-0712 to register and have the fire department install your new detector.
