It's not all that often that the city of Wheeling's Fire Department welcomes a new chief. James Blazier on Monday will become the fourth leader of the department in the past 50 years, following in the footsteps of Cliff Sligar, Steve Johnston and Larry Helms.
Those are big shoes to fill, but Blazier is well-suited to the task. He's been with the department for 30-plus years, most recently serving as the department's assistant chief in charge of training. We're certain he will continue the long legacy of excellence in protecting and serving the public that his predecessors put in place.
Congratulations, Chief Blazier, and best of luck as you begin your next chapter with the Wheeling Fire Department.
