Portland was the site of horrific gun violence recently including an incident in which one woman was shot and killed and five were hospitalized.
As people gathered for a march, an altercation occurred between an armed homeowner and armed protesters. When police arrived, they encountered a problem: Witnesses failed to provide them with information. Refusing to comply with police officers while they are trying to process the scene of a crime is helping no one.
By refusing to cooperate, marchers hurt only the friends and family members of the victims. Certainly it leaves law enforcement with a more difficult job in finding those responsible. Refusing to cooperate increases the chances the wrong people are blamed -- and that does little to help the families who are grieving.
