Prospective students and their parents on Thursday got a chance to see some of the new changes completed at Wheeling Park High School.
In short, the changes are impressive.
The All About Park event, which invited private and parochial school students and also all eighth-grade students to the school to learn about the classes, clubs and programs offered, this year also served as a chance for Ohio County Schools to highlight some of the additions made at Wheeling Park as part of a countywide $72 million bond approved by voters.
The 45-year-old high school, which previously had a flat, utilitarian entrance, now has a two-story entrance that allows natural light to enter the building while providing new office space and also a new school store.
Along with the new entrance and enhanced lighting throughout the school, there are a host of upgrades for academic programs including a new robotics lab; upgraded technology offerings; a new strings and chorus room; and later this year, maker spaces.
On the athletics side, there are renovated locker rooms, an upgraded wrestling room and a new turf softball/band/soccer field.
Wheeling Park is an excellent high school, and the upgrades will only help to grow its stature as one of the best high schools in West Virginia and also throughout the tri-state region.
Taxpayers' investment in the facility was a wise choice.
