Wheeling Elks Support Youth

2 min read

College is expensive, and students and families often incur thousands of dollars in debt to pay for an education.

The Wheeling Elks organization has made the burden of college at least a little more tolerable for two local families.

Danyelle Dunlevy, a senior at The Linsly School, and Nathan Dieffenbaugher, a senior at Wheeling Central Catholic High School, each have been named as winners of the 2021-22 Wheeling Elks Scholarships, worth $1,000 each.

Dunlevy, a Senior Prefect, yearbook editor and AP Scholar at Linsly, plans to attend the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio, and major in psychology.

Dieffenbaugher, student council president at Wheeling Central and also captain of both the Science Bowl and Quiz Bowl teams and an AP Scholar, plans to attend Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and major in Finance.

Members of the Wheeling Elks continue to do yeoman's work in supporting students in Ohio and Marshall counties. They understand that when it comes to college, every dollar counts. We applaud their continued efforts.

"We believe it is important to recognize outstanding leadership and scholarship qualities in the youth of our area," said Elks Exalted Ruler Jim Tekely. "We are proud that more than $4 million in scholarships is awarded nationally by the Elks each year."

The future appears bright for both students, and we wish Dunlevy and Dieffenbaugher well as they complete their high school career and prepare for college.
