Not enough good can be said for Youth Services System's Winter Freeze Shelter, which this year provided about 250 homeless people a night in from the cold.
The shelter, located at the former Ohio Valley Medical Center in Center Wheeling, closed for the season this week. Of particular note this year, according to YSS communications director Betsy Bethel-McFarland, is that about 25% of those who stayed at the shelter were placed into more permanent living situation.
As we've noted before, the city's homeless issue is complex, and requires groups such as YSS and others working together to make a difference.
We commend all those involved this year in helping YSS to keep the freeze shelter operational. It's requires a community effort to address this issue.
