Every few years, we get the pleasure of bringing together the candidates for the Ohio County Board of Education to answer important questions about the district's future. The public always makes a strong showing at these community forums, and we expect that to continue at this year's event, set for 6:30 p.m. today at The Highlands Events Center.
Candidates running this year are Molly Aderholt, Darrin Cox, Dave Croft, Andy Garber and Jessica Powers. Three of the five will be elected; however, due to how school board candidates are elected in West Virginia, it's not a guarantee that the three highest vote totals will result in winning a seat.
We've provided an explanation of how this works in our story on Page One of today's newspaper, and also will briefly explain the process during tonight's forum.
Expect to hear from the candidates on issues from test scores to dealing with mental health issues to the challenges school boards across the country face from increasing state government intrusion into public education.
We hope you join with us tonight, as we believe the school board contest is the most important -- and the most impactful -- race on the ballot May 10.
