An Important Hire

1 min read

The newly appointed search committee tasked with finding West Liberty University's next president has a major challenge ahead -- selecting the right leader to restore trust and integrity within the institution's leadership.

The search committee includes WLU Board of Governors members Rich Lucas, Jack Adams, Michael J. Baker, Arlene Brantley, Richard Carter, Thomas Cervone, Jamie Evick, Ryan Glanville, Sydney Burkle, David H. McKinley, Jason Metz and Stephanie Shaw. Joining them will be WLU Foundation Chairman John Dolan and Vice Chairman Dr. Daniel Joseph, along with Katie Cooper.

The group will select a replacement for W. Franklin Evans whose contract at WLU will expire at the end of 2022. Evans was found to have plagiarized parts of speeches he gave on campus and in the community, and lost the trust of faculty.

The university has been dealing with nearly a decade of ongoing turmoil dating back to the ethics violations that led to the end of former president Robin Capehart's tenure in 2015. It is important that this group selected to find the university's next leader get this hire right.
