"It's still to be seen where they are going to find all these workers."
Lavea Brachman, a co-author of a recent Brookings Institute report, was talking specifically about Intel's New Albany, Ohio, facilities, but the reality is the same question could be asked regarding any potential large employer we hope to attract to our region.
Columbus State Community College is working with community colleges throughout the state on providing the training that will help Intel fill the 3,000 jobs the facilities are expected to provide. Where will all these trained workers be found?
On top of that, if Intel is just the beginning, how does Ohio staff other large employers? What can education officials, labor unions, parents and politicians do to make sure we're ready for the next one? High schools, community and technical colleges, trade schools, colleges and universities, parents and local officials will have to be thinking bigger than site readiness.
We've got to make the switch to human readiness, too.
