Pats on the Back

– To Warwood Middle School teacher Ellen Nau who this past week learned she was being honored as the "Middle School Math Teacher of the Year" by the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Also last week, Warwood Middle teacher Annie Vopal received her award after recently being named "2023 Unit Design Collaborative Star" by the Southern Regional Education Board.

Nau teaches mathematics to seventh graders at the school, while Vopal teaches the sixth grade.

What's particularly noteworthy for both educators are the words of one of their students, Jacob Breitinger. The seventh-grader credited both teachers with giving him a love for math that he will carry into the future.

"They definitely helped 100% with my progress in math," Breitinger said. "I love math, and they are a big contributor to that."

Both teachers are the perfect example of what we should expect in today's classrooms -- excellence in instruction and accountability for all students as they are inspired to learn. Congratulations to both for their well-deserved honors.
