It's never good for the community when county officials -- in this case, the Ohio County Commission and deputies with the Ohio County Sheriff's Department -- are at odds with one another.
Monday's announcement that the two sides had agreed to settle a lawsuit over pay issues is good news for the county, and will provide better enforcement measures at The Highlands while also giving deputies and civilian workers within the Sheriff's Department a "significant" pay raise.
There are enough problems in Ohio County without the concern of a lawsuit hanging over taxpayers' heads.
Good work by all involved in getting this settled and allowing deputies to focus solely on protecting the county.
