There may have been no more welcome news in the past week than to learn that, in the near future, the West Virginia Division of Highways will repair and reopen the Market Street Bridge linking downtown to Center Wheeling. The span needs a new deck, and state officials are currently preparing a bid package. The span has been closed for more than a year after being damaged by fire from a homeless encampment; with all the work going on downtown, it's at times been challenging to find a route to either get to work, or get home.
Having the bridge open will help to alleviate that issue.
