Finding and Fixing Issues in Downtown

1 min read

Work this past week that closed one of the few remaining entry points into downtown Wheeling should serve as a reminder to city leaders that the time is now to ensure as much infrastructure work as possible is done prior to the Downtown Streetscape project's completion. The last thing anyone wants to see is, a year after the project's finish, crews digging up new sidewalks or smooth concrete to repair something that could be done now.

The street in question is 14th Street, and it has been closed since Tuesday between Chapline and Market streets. The middle of the road had been sinking for the past several weeks, and upon excavation city crews found a crushed sewer line.

We understand not every scenario can be planned for, but the city really must do as best as possible to find potential problem areas and fix them now.

It would be a disservice to our downtown to see it blemished after we've waited so long for its revitalization.

Starting at /week.
