Some 300 Marshall County youths along with 75 adults will participate in National 4-H week events which will be held Sunday through next Saturday. This year's theme is "Growing with 4-H." Clubs are for youth ages 4-21. There is no charge to sign up. Marshall County has 11 clubs whose locations and names are: Maxwell Acres/Apaches, Limestone/Baler, Cameron/Bandits, St. Joseph Settlement/Evershining, Pleasant Valley/Farm Critters, Dallas-Sand Hill/Hustlers, Glen Dale-Moundsville/Marshals, Wayman's Ridge/Mountaineers, Bowman Ridge/Ridge Runners, Sherrard/Roadrunners, and Moundsville/Wildcats. Specialties of the clubs are livestock club, goat and rabbit club, horse club, dairy club, teen leaders, and shooting sports. The theme is Marshall County 4-H Clubs, Building the Future!

The Marshall County Commission at its most recent meeting approved a request from PSD No. 2 for an additional $200,000 to help with moving the Wood Hill Booster Station to another area. The current site of the station is not stable. Also approved was the hiring of Wyatt Setterstrom, who started his work this Friday as a 911 dispatcher. An updated voting equipment security policy and building lease to house voting equipment was approved also. It was also noted that he clerk's office is beginning to get everything in order for the upcoming election season.

The Strand Theater in Moundsville is making plans for events this month which include: Parade Raffle ticket sales which are on sale as of today (Oct 1.) The Wizard of Oz Ballet, which will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 7. A free Halloween Craft and Movie Event will take place on Oct. 28, there will be a craft at 1:15 p.m. and a movie at 2 p.m. that day. The Rocky Horror Picture show movie will take place at 9 p.m. on Oct. 28.

The Oglebay Institute Ballet at the Strand on Oct. 7 will bring classic stories form the page to the stage though dance and theatrical performances.
The Strand Theatre recently benefited from numerous safety to the fly space above the stage by securing and bring the fly space rigging up to industry standards for the safety of performers, technicians and patrons of the theatre. A team of four professional riggers spent an entire week removing old systems and installing new ones. Theatre personnel expressed thanks to the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture, and History along with the Karl and Mildred Nicokamp Foundation for supporting this project.

Casey Storm, director of Student Services at Marshall County Schools, gave the Marshall County Board of Education members an overview of the Game Changer program during Tuesday's Board of Education Meeting. Game Changer is an opioid and substance misuse prevention program that partners with the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. It is being implemented at Cameron Elementary School, Cameron High School and John Marshall High School. Joe Boczek, Game Changer executive director, also addressed the board and provided an explanation of the program and how it will serve the students at Marshall County Schools. Game Changer was created in 2018 with a mission to prevent drug and alcohol abuse and misuse in the youth program. Game Changer is designed to educate, support, and empower young West Virginians to live healthy, drug free lifestyles while preparing to be our leaders of tomorrow. The program is currently in 50 schools in 14 counties.
