n To members of the Fort Henry Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution who this past week unveiled a newly refurbished and newly located McColloch's Leap Monument atop Wheeling Hill. The monument has been keeping watch over the city since 1917.
"It was inaccessible, and it was in terrible condition," said Jay Frey, president of the local group that spearheaded the monument's restoration and relocation. "This is the Fort Henry Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution's signature project for America 250 in 2026."
Excellent work.
n To Leo, a 32-year-old Palomino horse from Belmont County who recently retired from a career in hippotherapy, or horseback riding therapy.
Owned by St. Clairsville Mayor Kathryn Thalman, Leo has in recent years spent his time working with disabled children. The classes are taught by Jeannine Shaw at Shaw's Equine Therapy Farm near St. Clairsville. His final ride went to a child from Wheeling.
"Leo has certainly earned his retirement," Thalman said. "He is a beautiful soul who did his life's work earnestly and kindly."
Congratulations, Leo.
