Aaron Snider likely made West Virginia history when, at age 20, he earned the office of Bethlehem mayor.
He is believed to be the youngest person ever elected mayor in the Mountain State. To see someone that young step up in such a way to help make his community better was refreshing and offered hope that the state's younger generation wanted to actively make a difference.
So it was sad to see Snider announce this past week that, due to health concerns, he must step down from that position effective Oct. 31. Snider was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma just 13 months into his term.
"This was not an easy decision," Snider wrote in his resignation letter, "but one that I have come to as I feel it is best for my health and the future of the Village and its Residents."
There's nothing more important than one's health, so Snider's quest to return to full health should be met with the support of not just Bethlehem residents, but community members throughout the Ohio Valley.
Here's to Snider getting back on his feet and healthy as soon as he can. We all want to see him out and about in the community, and hopefully back in the political arena, in due time.
