Steubenville's population is growing by more than 200 today as the popular Nutcracker Village makes it debut.
The village, filled with life-sized nutcrackers, brings visitors from across the country to Steubenville to celebrate the holiday season. Each nutcracker has its own story, which allows visitors to learn more about their journey to Steubenville.
"Giving personalities to each character is probably one of the easier tasks associated with creating nutcrackers," lead designer and event organizer Therese Nelson said. "The unique shape, colors and mustache given to each nutcracker create diverse outcomes initially, but sometimes the nutcrackers create their own personalities with an accidental fall and a new scar or a harrowing tale of being stolen and hidden in a basement for a night."
This special feature in Steubenville really is one of the unique pieces of Chrsitmas in our region. If you haven't been there, it's worth a visit. The nutcrackers can be visited daily and are on display through Jan. 6.
