Christmas a Blessed Time of Year

2 min read

The gifts have been opened, the Christmas feast is being prepared. How blessed we are here in our Upper Ohio Valley to have so many things to be thankful for this special, joyous day.

As we gather with family and friends today to enjoy holiday cheer and, most importantly, fellowship and tidings of comfort and joy, let us recall what others have said over the years on the spirit of Christmas:

"Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting self and finding time for others. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values." -- Thomas S. Monson

"Christmas is a day of meaning and traditions, a special day spent in the warm circle of family and friends." -- Margaret Thatcher

"Your children need your presence more than your presents." -- Jesse Jackson

"Christmas is the season for kindling the fire of hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart." -- Washington Irving

"We consider Christmas as the encounter, the great encounter, the historical encounter, the decisive encounter, between God and mankind. He who has faith knows this truly: Let Him rejoice." -- Pope Paul VI

"We are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmastime." -- Laura Ingalls Wilder

"The great challenge left to us is to cut through all the glitz and glam of the season that has grown increasingly secular and commercial, and be reminded of the beauty of the One who is Christmas." -- Bill Crowder

May you and your families enjoy a blessed Christmas Day celebration.
