Responsible Parenting

Perhaps the sunshine and warm weather will help us realize that we are rapidly approaching graduation season. The 2023-24 school year is nearly upon us and that means it is time for some important conversations between students and their parents.

First step? Keep alcohol out of the equation when it comes to celebrating your child's graduation.

Next? Talk about the dangers of alcohol for your children as they prepare to leave home. The Ohio Investigative Unit and the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Liquor Control are encouraging parents and students to talk about underage drinking laws.

Underage drinking, particularly combined with driving, can be dangerous -- even deadly. It's not worth the risk.

Meanwhile, parents must have other difficult, potentially awkward conversations with their kids about making smart choices in all circumstances.

No one said it would be easy.

But it's part of what parents have to do.
