– To the West Virginia Airport Managers Association for scheduling their annual West Virginia Aviation Conference for July 28-30 at Oglebay Park. The Wheeling-Ohio County Airport appears to have a bright future ahead with the new aviation program taking flight from a partnership between West Liberty University and Marshall University, and having the airport managers meet in Wheeling is a sign that movement is being recognized.

– To the Ohio County Development Authority for landing Guntry, and the news this week that the company would begin hiring employs at The Highlands location later this month. A total of 25 to 30 employees will be operating the gun training center, which is set to open Oct. 1.

– To the Wheeling Park Commission for the $1.2 million in updates to the Stifel Playground at Wheeling Park. The new area is believed to be the largest and most inclusive playground in the state. It opened prior to Memorial Day for youngsters and their families to enjoy.

Wheeling Park Manager Nat Goudy said families are arriving early to hit the slides, swings and other features, and that community support has been incredible.
