Relief Is Available From April Floods
It’s been two months since two separate Ohio River floods caused havoc to many in our region. Most of the cleanup has been completed, and now it’s time for residents to ensure they receive all the help they need to recover.
Assistance is now available from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration following a disaster declaration for the entire region issued by President Joe Biden on May 28. FEMA has a Disaster Recovery Center currently operational in the region — this week, it’s in Glen Dale, at the Glen Dale Elementary School at 407 Seventh St. — where residents can go for assistance if they experienced damage to their property from river flooding, wind or landslides following several days of heavy rain in late March/early April.
If you were impacted, there’s no good reason not to seek help. Disaster relief is one of the areas where our federal government still tends to get it right.
The SBA, for example, offers low-interest loans for businesses, homeowners, nonprofit organizations and even renters that may have been impacted by flooding. That can go a long way to help prepare for the next time something such as this happens.
Again, there’s no good reason not to seek the help that’s being made available. Both FEMA and the SBA are here to assist you in your recovery.
