Get Out, Support Events in Wheeling
Don’t let it ever be said that there’s “nothing to do in Wheeling.”
The past few weeks have so shown otherwise.
Three weekends ago, the annual Ogden Wellness Weekend took to the streets downtown for two days of family and fitness-related events. Just a short distance away that same weekend, Oglebay Park hosted its annual Backyard Barbecue event.
Waterfront Wednesdays have kicked into high gear. And this past weekend featured several events that focused on what makes Wheeling so unique — its people.
The city on Saturday wrapped up its inaugural Fashion Week with a runway event at Waterfront Hall. Earlier Saturday, thousands of folks took advantage of the sunny weather to visit the Wheeling Feeling Chili Cook-Off. And then, on Sunday, the “Ohio River Splashtacular: Making Waves For Easterseals” awed those in attendance at Heritage Port.
“We wanted to continue to do something that benefited Easterseals and used the river as a stage,” Easterseals Marketing Director Betsy Bethel-McFarland said, referring to the former Wheeling Vintage Raceboat Regatta, which ended after last year’s event. “Heritage Port is such a beautiful venue, but often people just come to the port and there’s nothing really happening on the river, so this actually uses the river as a stage. We’re really excited to have the community come down and experience a water ski show probably for the first time, for a lot of people.”
There are events this weekend throughout town. In fact, every weekend this summer is full of options for just about every person in the region.
Get out and support your friends and neighbors, and have some fun yourself. There’s no lack of options.
