Most of us have run into a situation in the workplace where a little more tech knowledge — or maybe even a significant amount of training — could make a world of difference in our ability to do our jobs and better work toward our employers’ goals.

But getting that training takes time and money. Fortunately, there is a state program aiming to do something about at least one of those factors. Ohio’s TechCred program awards employers funding to help their employees gain new skills. In May, the program awarded a record more than $9.9 million in funding to 622 employers. That money will provide the chance for 8,362 tech-focused credentials to be earned.

According to Gov. Mike DeWine’s office, the funding is available to employers in any industry, which can apply for up to $30,000 per round and up to $180,000 per year.

Sounds like what government is supposed to be doing with public money, doesn’t it?

Buckeye State residents are diligent, smart workers capable of accomplishing amazing things for their employers and their state. Thank goodness officials who developed TechCred understand sometimes we all need to learn something new and polish our skills once in a while.
