Keeping Kindness in the Ohio Valley
Groups from all over the Ohio Valley are showing in impressive fashion that their thoughts – and deeds — remain with the people of Ohio County still rebuilding after the June 14 flash flooding.
Fourth Street United Methodist Church recently donated $10,000 to the church’s West Virginia Conference for flood relief. It is one of a growing number of local organizations stepping forward to offer assistance to their friends and neighbors.
The Rev. Gary Rankin, pastor at Fourth Street, said the church simply had the money in its accounts and felt the best way to use it was to help flood victims elsewhere in the county.
They’re not alone in their generosity. The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra recently held a flood benefit concert at Vance Memorial Prebyterian Church, where it asked for donations to flood victims. Several other groups also have held benefit concerts and other events all with the goal of neighbors helping neighbors during their time of need.
As people in the flood-ravaged communities of Triadelphia and Valley Grove continue waiting for a federal major disaster declaration, they should rest as easy as they can knowing their neighbors haven’t forgotten them.
It’s just another example of the kind hearts that can be found throughout our community.
It’s just another example of how the Ohio Valley has pulled together in this time of need.
