Don’t Miss Out on Disaster Aid

Since representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Small Business Administration arrived last month to help those affected by the June 14 flash floods in Ohio County, flood victims have been able to access multiple avenues for aid — and the federal organizations have kept coming up with more.

The most recent was $770 in Serious Needs Assistance, a new offering from FEMA which had not been approved for Ohio and Marion counties until recently.

“It’s for anything people might have needed after the disaster,” FEMA spokesperson Kim Fuller said. “If they had to buy water, cleaning supplies, food, it literally could be anything.”

That’s on top of another new avenue of aid, a $300 Clean and Sanitize Assistance payment for people to buy or be reimbursed for cleaning supplies and sanitation necessities. There’s also the rest of the full catalog of assistance, like low-interest loans, homeowner and rental assistance and help with repair costs.

Here’s the catch — that assistance has deadlines to apply, and some of them are looming. The Serious Needs Assistance applications deadline Aug. 22. Most of the rest of FEMA and SBA assistance deadlines Sept. 22.

Recovery from such a devastating natural disaster is difficult and long. FEMA and the SBA are at the ready to help anyone in need to make that recovery easier. If you need help, don’t hesitate to contact them.

Starting at $2.99/week.
