Take Advantage of All Flood Benefits
Ohio County flood victims are now seeing exactly what a federal disaster declaration provides. On Monday, it was announced that those affected by the deadly June 14 floods can now apply for disaster unemployment assistance benefits, as well as a one-time $300 payment for cleaning and sanitation supplies.
That’s on top of the benefits already available to those folks, including emergency repairs to homes and private roads and bridges, personal property losses and medical services, just to name a few.
There are so many avenues for help for flood-affected residents. Those people should take every advantage of them that they can. Gather the information. Fill out the forms. Put whatever documents you have together and submit them for aid.
Of course, that can feel daunting, especially after some people lost so much in the floods. Yet one thing we have seen in the flood’s aftermath is that there are so many people ready to help however they can.
That’s not just the FEMA representatives now sitting at the Valley Grove and Triadelphia community centers. There has been a wonderful crew of volunteers at the ready for weeks, willing to lend a hand however needed, even if it’s just getting a second set of eyes on a FEMA form.
Flood victims have already done so much on their own on their path of rebuilding. They shouldn’t keep doing it alone.
