Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late for FEMA

As of today, there is less than two weeks left for those who suffered damage in the June Ohio County floods to apply for aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The deadline to apply is Sept. 22.

So far, many have taken advantage of that aid to the tune of millions of dollars. At a recent Ohio County Commission meeting, Ohio County EMA Director Lou Vargo said 519 Ohio County residents have applied and FEMA has awarded more than $5.9 million from those claims.

Yet there may still be some out there who haven’t yet taken advantage of those services. Maybe they don’t think they’d receive much. But, as Philip Maramba, assistant external affairs officer with FEMA, said, one never knows. He heard a story of one person who walked in to apply and, through a conversation with a FEMA representative, they realized he qualified for the maximum grant of $43,000.

These FEMA funds can go a long way toward helping flood victims get back on their feet. All it takes is heading to the Disaster Recovery Center in Triadelphia, calling 800-321-FEMA or logging onto disasterassistance.org.

But you only have until Sept. 22 to do it, so don’t delay.

Starting at $2.99/week.
